My travel home is an adventure in and of itself. The overview is a bus, three airport shuttles, two taxis, 6 different airplanes, 7 airports and a road trip covering 700 miles. All this over the course of 4 days. Throw in a little jet lag just for good measure.
I purchased all of my airline flights with miles accumulated over the years. I flew round trip to Europe for a few hundred dollars in fees. As a result of booking only a few weeks in advance I couldn’t be choosy with my flights. I had to piece mill my travel together resulting in my three day flight itinerary.
I flew Iberia, British Airways, and Southwest. Iberia is a true budget carrier in they nickel and dime you for everything. It’s annoying. I will avoid flying them in the future if possible.
British Airways provided very nice service, as always. And Southwest is Southwest. No frills but I wasn’t turned upside down and shaken for a few coins as I boarded because I expected to breathe on the flight.
I love traveling. The experiences gained by immersing ourselves in different cultures widens our point of view. In the end we are all the same seeking the same fundamental things in life.
Even with my fondness for travel it’s always great making your way home. Particularly when you land in the U.S. You know the nuances of how things work. Not everything is painstakingly difficult to accomplish.
The end of the Camino has been bitter sweet. Happy to be headed home, the excitement of the day to day newness will be missed. Meeting single serve friends and those you see everyday for weeks on your journey added to the experience. So many stories and life experiences retold.
Each morning in waking and setting off for a new town, not knowing where I’ll sleep or eat, or even the name of the town I’ll stop in, provided for a sense of adventure I had not previously experienced. This may sound horrific to some, but after a few days you become accustomed to it. Many people set out on the typical vacation with their travel itineraries set in stone, leaving little to the imagination. Happenstance provides for wonderful opportunities.
The reconciliation from this adventure will take weeks if not months. There were to many experiences every single day to digest all of them. They are rattling around in the recess of the brain waiting for their turn to be reconciled. I enjoy this part of new experiences immensely
