Earlier this week I had dinner with an old coworker and her husband. Over the years, while working together Jen and I became pretty good friends. Her husband Darren is in the Navy. Their life has had quite a bit of change over the last few years. They moved to Idaho, had two children, and have since moved back to San Diego.
While on the trail Darren expressed interest in joining me for a week. I received the email while in Idyllwild. As you know the story, I came off the trail a week later, so there was little opportunity to join me. So at dinner, I asked Darren if he wanted to hit the trail for a week. He immediately agreed saying he only needed a couple weeks notice so he could put in for the leave.
Another friend of mine, Tate, wanted to join me in Tahoe and hike for a week. He may also join for the week in May.
Over the next few days, I will put together an itinerary and send it over to them. We may just jump on the trail in Big Bear, to continue where I left off. The scenery should be rather pretty and the trail not terribly difficult in that section. We wont be killing ourselves, so in 5-7 days we should be able to go from Big Bear to either Cajon Pass or Wrightwood. We can plan for both eventualities depending on our mileage per day. It looks like we will head out for a week in mid May, depending on potential schedule conflicts.
I am looking forward to another week on the trail! It will be a good experience to share with a couple of friends.
